But now, it appears Justin’s statement was only sent because his people encouraged him to — and by “people,” we mean wife!

An Us Weekly source claimed The Sinner star was the one who advised her hubby to say he’s sorry to the public, telling the outlet:

“Jessica encouraged Justin to put out his statement on Instagram because she felt embarrassed by his actions and wanted him to take accountability.”

Despite the drama, however, the source noted that the couple are “still united.” Good to hear!

As we reported, the 38-year-old singer broke his silence about the incident on December 4, explaining in an Instagram post that he had “a strong lapse in judgement” after drinking “way too much that night,” but noted that “nothing happened between” him and Wainwright.

He wrote:

“I apologize to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be. This was not that. I am incredibly proud to be working on Palmer. Looking forward to continuing to make this movie and excited for people to see it.”

The Grammy-winner has been married to the 37-year-old actress since October 2012, and they share a 4-year-old son Silas.

Following the November 21 incident, an insider told Us that the co-stars are “just friends,” with a second source describing their relationship as “like brother and sister.” Wainwright’s rep also addressed the drama, saying in a statement:
