Jill Scott Being Sued By Former Record Label

Sounds like somebody forgot about her roots — or she made a better business decision!

Jill Scott is being sued by indie record label Hidden Beach which is claiming that Scott was an unknown the label took a chance on ten years ago and Hidden “poured its heart and soul into making poet and oul and R & N singer and songwriter Jill Scott a superstar.”

Scott’s attorney informed the label in October of 2009 that the singer was moving on and would “no longer perform recording services for Hidden Beach” even though she had a contract with them to do 3 more albums under Hidden.

In the papers, Hidden documents their devotion to Jill as an artist citing their promotional campaigns and the money spent on producing and filming one of her concert which she didn’t want to release in the end because she was afraid no one would pay to see her live if they could watch the DVD.

Hidden also claims that they helped Jill’s film career by securing a spot for her in Tyler Perry‘s Why Did I Get Married.

Hidden is suing Jill for undisclosed damages and attorney fees.

But superstars always end up leaving the indie labels that discovered them — it’s just a fact of life!
