Duh! This is Joan Rivers we’re talking about here! You think she doesn’t have an opinion about it! C’mon!
If you haven’t seen her documentary, Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work, then you’re probably a member of the Academy board because no one nominated it for an Oscar this year. In fact, the movie was so snubbed, it didn’t even make the short list of nominees!
Naturally, Joan has something to say about that. She told sources that she was “furious” that the flick got no recognition and she has her own ideas as to why! She explained:
“A head of a documentary board in England told me that we wouldn’t get an Oscar nomination because it’s not socially significant enough…What the fuck do you want? It’s about ageism, survival, and being a woman. It should’ve been nominated!”
Couldn’t agree more! Maybe certain people on the board need to stop thinking that a documentary is only good when the camera drudges through a third world country or someone addicted to huffing paint! This was a great movie, very poignant, very truthful about the biz!
Boo on you, Oscar!
