Sorry about that, but we HAD to go for that obvious joke! Ha!
Even though it didn’t get nominated for any Oscars, we’ve just learned that Jodie Foster has sent DVD screeners of her Mel Gibson-starring movie The Beaver to EVERY member of the Academy!
Here’s what Jodie writes about it in a letter that will accompany the DVDs:
“It is unusual to get a screener after the Oscar nominations have been announced, as the final chapter of award season is nearing, when nearly all of this year├óΓé¼Γäós movies have been viewed and assessed. That is because this screener of The Beaver is not For Your Consideration. It is simply for your enjoyment.”
“The Beaver is an unusual film, to say the least, with a voice and tone unlike any other. Mel Gibson├óΓé¼Γäós performance is undeniably deep and raw. I am so proud of the work we did together.”
It gets weirder, though. Jodie will actually be sending the “commercial consumer version” of the DVD, which is usually forbidden by the Academy. She probably got special permission to do this because the movie is not eligible for any awards at this time.
We’re still not 100% sure what to make of this, but we suppose it’ll give Jodie and Mel more newfound credibility with Academy members…if they like the movie that is.
What do U think? Would U watch The Beaver if U were given a free copy???
