Joe Biden Finally Makes It Official: He's Running For President In 2020

Well, we knew this was probably coming sooner or later.. Joe Biden just made things official, and most of America woke up on Thursday morning to the news: he’ll be running for President in 2020.
Biden, who has run for President several times before in his decades-long political career, has great name recognition from a life spent serving the country — and, of course, from his notable recent tenure as Vice President under Barack Obama.

The 76-year-old announced the campaign run in a slick four-minute video posted to his YouTube channel (above), delivering a message of equality and opportunity for all and blatantly going after the alt-right and the Republicans over events like the Charlottesville, Virginia unrest that has occurred during Donald Trump‘s time as President.

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly…

The Delaware native was long thought to be priming up for a presidential run this cycle, but several things had been dogging his potential campaign — not least of which is his age. If he wins against the Cheeto-in-Chief, Biden would be 78 years old when he assumes office in January 2021. Not young!!
But more notably than age (and much more important, to be honest) are the recent sexual misconduct and unwanted touching accusations that nearly derailed Biden’s campaign and more or less ended his political career before this cycle could even begin. Multiple women have come forward with Biden stories, not only giving easy campaign fodder to Trump’s camp, but presenting a serious, worthy social issue that the Democrat and his fans must acknowledge and fix.
Biden has offered the standard non-apology apology fare as far as the unwanted touching call-outs have gone, but it may be a tough road ahead for him considering Trump already loves making fun of the former VP for his alleged transgressions.

Biden Vs. Trump?

Speaking of Trump, though, Biden may actually be the only Democrat who could reasonably defeat him — believe it or not.
On Thursday morning, hours after Biden officially entered the race, Morning Consult released data from a poll they completed last week that shows he is officially the front-runner in the 2020 election — ahead of ALL other Democrats, and sitting on an eight-point lead over Trump himself. Not only is Biden the Dem with the only current polling lead against Trump, the candidate is actually polling even higher than his old boss Obama did against The Donald in the outlet’s 2012 poll. Wow… (For those curious, that data can be seen HERE.)
Data and polling aside (we know how much they got wrong in 2016, after all!), Biden is seen in many circle as a liberal tough guy who can take it to Trump and give back the jabs and one-liners he’s no doubt going to get from the former star of The Apprentice. Whether that’s a sound campaign strategy to call out the former reality star and play his insult games is a matter of opinion, of course, but Biden may well be better equipped to handle that realm than people like Elizabeth Warren or Pete Buttigieg — Democrat candidates more focused on serious policy proposals and good governance.

Who Are The Democrats?

With Biden’s announcement today, at least 22 men and women are officially running for President against Trump in 2020 as members of the Democrat Party. But as you’d expect, they hold wide-ranging and often contradictory views about various policies and issues. Whereas Bernie Sanders and others favor more socialist-leaning social and fiscal policies, much to the delight of younger constituents, a guy like Biden may be seen as a “safe” liberal who can maintain social order and beat Trump without rocking the boat too much for older Democrats and anti-Trump Republicans. And those are only two of the 22 opinions on the spectrum right now!
All that is to say this: the Democrats have a major challenge this cycle in figuring out where they are headed, and whether they’ll be a true leftist party that can change the course of some major issues in America (health care, student loan debt, etc.), or if they’d fit better as a centrist party who can pick off some Republicans and right-wingers fed up with Trump and create a moderate coalition that keeps the peace and defeats the hard right, but may not make very many ground-breaking policy changes.

It’ll be fascinating to see how it plays out, but there is a concern here, too. If the party splits the difference and doesn’t fully align behind a nominee (Sanders, or Biden, or Warren, or Buttigieg, or anyone else!), Trump could well cruise to victory again… and America is back to where it’s been for these last few years.
No pressure, Democrats! If you screw this up, we get “grab her by the p***y” for FOUR MORE YEARS…

Social Media Reacts To Biden’s Big News!

As you’d expect, social media was LIT this morning after Biden’s announcement, with political wonks, celebs, and everyday folks all sharing major opinions about the former VP and chances against Democrats — and The Donald.

Well then!
What do y’all think about a potential Biden-Trump matchup in 2020? Feels like this thing could EASILY derail itself into a war of jabs and insults… or maybe Joe is the only one perfect enough to go up against someone as bizarre as Trump??
Who knows…
