Joey King Says It Was 'Crazy' Working With Ex-Boyfriend Jacob Elordi On 'The Kissing Booth 2'

Joey King talks working with ex-boyfriend Jacob Elordi on 'The Kissing Booth 2.'

Sometimes it can get real messy when actors end up falling in and out of love while working on movies together, but as the old saying goes: the show must go on!

This seemed to be the case for Joey King, who recently opened up about what it was like to reunite with ex-boyfriend Jacob Elordi on the sequel to their Netflix hit, The Kissing Booth.

For those who may not know, the 20-year-old and Elordi began seeing each other after they were both cast for the movie and their relationship lasted for over a year before they broke up in 2018.

So, when it was announced the two would return to reprise their roles in the teen romantic comedy, The Kissing Booth 2, slated for release at some point in 2020, many fans were left wondering if it was awkward for the former flames to do their jobs after the split.

As a guest on the Mood With Lauren Elizabeth podcast, King addressed those concerns about working with her on-screen bae:

“I know what everyone wants to know, of course. It was crazy. It was a wild experience. But honestly, it was a really beautiful time. Because I learned a lot about myself and I grew as an actor. I grew as a person on this.”

But what about the pair’s palpable chemistry that captivated fans before? In regards to what it was like shooting Elle (played by Joey) and Noah (played by Jacob)’s love scenes, the starlet admitted:

“It was fine. It was good.”

Probably not as good as the first time around, but it sounds like they made it work!

The Emmy-award nominee continued her mature take on the matter (below), adding:

“I think for me because I am very much a frickin’ huge fan of The Kissing Booth myself, I’m a fan of how it resonated with the world, it resonated with me, so going back and doing that and making the sacrifice of what, obviously, everyone is thinking about and what I’m not outwardly addressing, but what I’m kind of on the sly addressing, making those sacrifices was totally worth it.”

We can’t exactly say we know what Elordi’s thoughts are as he has yet to publicly speak on all this, but eagle-eyed fans speculated the Euphoria star must not be too thrilled about returning to the project after he appeared a bit lethargic in this promo which came out online earlier this month:

Hmm…

Although it sounds like filming went amicably, for the most part, viewers can still expect plenty of on-screen drama in TKB2, as King told Refinery 29 earlier this year:

“I think it’s going to play a lot into Lee and Elle’s friendship but there’s plenty of relationship drama to be had on the next one, so don’t worry, we will definitely get into that.”
