John Singleton, the famed director of Boyz N The Hood and other major works of art and pop culture over the last several decades, has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke earlier this week.
According to a statement from the famed entertainment bosses family, Singleton suffered the stroke on Wednesday while at the hospital in the first place, and he was immediately taken to the intensive care unit, where he is now recovering under the watchful eye of doctors and nurses. According to media reports, he is supposedly at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

Here’s the family statement issued to the public earlier today that first made the announcement about Singleton’s health (below):
“On Wednesday, April 17th, our beloved son/father, John Singleton, suffered a stroke while at the hospital. John is currently in the ICU and under great medical care. We ask that privacy be given to him and our family at this time and appreciate all of the prayers that have been pouring in from his fans, friends and colleagues.”
Wow — sound so serious, and so unsettling! We can only hope that he recovers and returns to good health, slowly but surely!
An Impressive Career
Singleton has been nominated for two Oscars in his career — Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, both for his legendary work on Boyz N The Hood. The gritty film tale of gang life in south central Los Angeles also marked the acting debuts of Ice Cube and Morris Chestnut, while also starring other legends like Cuba Gooding Jr., Laurence Fishburne, Nia Long, Regina King, and Angela Bassett.
He’s directed a number of other things in his professional life, as well, including Michael Jackson‘s music video for Remember the Time, and other movies like Rosewood, Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and Four Brothers.
On TV, he’s directed episodes of both Empire and Billions, while also leading the way on The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story.
