Johnny Depp loved raising his kids.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star sat down with The Sunday Times for a chat published on Saturday in which he opens up about raising Lily-Rose, 26, and Jack, 23, with his ex Vanessa Paradis. While admiring on a painting of his daughter, the Edward Scissorhands star dished:
“I never finished it. She was 10 then, and 25 now. Years get away from us, don’t they? I’m of the empty-nest syndrome.”

He went on to admit he misses having his two kids around while reflecting on raising them in France:
“Oh man, my kids growing up in the south of France in their youth? … I was Papa. I cannot tell you how much I loved being Papa. Then, suddenly, Papa was out the window. I was Dad. But Papa was awesome.”
That’s so sweet! The 62-year-old star went on to seemingly hint at the prospect of becoming a grandfather some day:
“And I’m getting old enough for Papa to possibly come back. Some motherf**ker’s going to have to call me Papa!”
LOLz!
Johnny told the outlet that he doesn’t spend much time in the US anymore, but rather divides his time between the UK and the Bahamas. But the only place he’s TRULY ever felt a sense of home was back in France with Vanessa and their kids:
“Truly, the first time I felt I had a home was the place in the south of France where Vanessa and I raised the kiddies. That’s the only place that ever felt like home.”
That’s really sweet! Johnny and Vanessa were together for 14 years before breaking things off in 2012. Hopefully he gets to see Lily-Rose and Jack often!
