Seriously???
A mother from Newport, Tennessee is appealing a court’s ruling after a judge ordered her and her husband to change their son, which just so happens to be Messiah!
Another strange thing is the mother, Jaleesa Martin, was in court with her baby’s daddy because they couldn’t agree on a last name for their baby – which is when the judge brought up his issue with the first name.
Here’s what the judge reportedly said:
“The word Messiah is a title and it’s a title that has only been earned by one person and that one person is Jesus Christ.”
Wait what?? How can a judge decide if a name is proper or not?!
Which is exactly what the mother’s reaction was!
Here’s what she said:
“I was shocked. I never intended on naming my son Messiah because it means God and I didn’t think a judge could make me change my baby’s name because of her religious beliefs.”
We’re pretty sure we didn’t think that was possible either! This is still America, right?
