Judiciary Committee Approves Sotomayor Confirmation

Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the US Supreme Court will be voted on by the full US Senate as dictated by the Senate Judiciary Committee, which voted Tuesday to approve her nomination.
She was chosen by Obama to replace retiring Justice David Souter.
If confirmed, she will be the first Hispanic person to serve on the Supreme Court.
Politics are heavily at play, with Republicans divided between placation and the growing Hispanic vote, and citing Sotomayor’s stance on gun control as their reason to vote against her.
The National Rifle Association has announced its opposition to Sotomayor and, expectedly, so have the Americans United for Life.
