Julie Taymor Talks! Says Shakespeare Would Be APPALLED With Spider-Man Revamp!

It’s been a tough road for Julie Taymor! We can’t blame her for needing to vent a little bit.

While it was very nice to see Julie playing nice with the Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark team at the show’s opening night, it looks like Julie’s still got a lot to say about the new version of the show, which was made after she was fired.

Here’s Julie on the Internet’s role in hurting the Spider-Man musical:

“It’s a new time. Twitter and Facebook and blogging just trump you. It’s incredibly difficult to be under a shot-glass and a microscope like that. When you├óΓé¼Γäóre trying to break new ground, the immediate answers that audiences give are never going to be good.”

And Julie on her condemnation of making “artistic decisions” based on “test-marketing audiences”:

“There’s always something people don’t like. It├óΓé¼Γäós very scary if people are going more towards that, to have audiences tell you how to make a show. Shakespeare would have been appalled.”

And here’s Julie’s thoughts on the new, revamped version of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark:

“The production today has become much simpler.”

Doesn’t surprise us that Julie wouldn’t be overly supportive of the revamped Spider-Man musical. At least she’s talking it out, and getting everything off her chest, without being TOO harsh about the new show…well, except maybe for that Shakespeare comment. Ha!

Do U agree with Julie’s comments? Should audience responses influence a decision to change a show or not?
