Now that Jussie Smollett has officially been charged with filing a false police report, his legal team is moving into overdrive to mount a defense for the Empire actor.
And the first part of that defense, logged long before whatever may happen in a Chicago courtroom over the next few months, comes trying to win the battle in the court of public opinion.

To that end, Smollett’s legal team — Todd Pugh and Victor Henderson — provided a strong statement to Us Weekly in response to their client officially moving from victim, to suspect, to charged (below):
“Like any other citizen, Mr. Smollett enjoys the presumption of innocence, particularly when there has been an investigation like this one where information, both true and false, has been repeatedly leaked. Given these circumstances, we intend to conduct a thorough investigation and to mount an aggressive defense.”
Well said!
Like anyone else, Smollett deserves and is entitled to a full legal defense — and his day in court — and both of those rights are kicking into gear right about now.
