Whoa! Katy Perry‘s just gotten a very important stamp of approval!
As the pop star’s romance with Justin Trudeau heats up, his son is now opening up about their relationship and what he really thinks of his potential new stepmomma!
During Wednesday’s episode of the Can’t Be Censored podcast, Xavier “Xav” Trudeau gushed about the Firework artist, and it sounds like they’re pretty close! As a singer himself, the 18-year-old is thrilled to have a legendary performer like her join the fam:
“When I’m really happy with a song, [I] send it [to her]. She’s always happy to give me advice or tell me what I should change.”

Xav shared that he has a good relationship with Katy and has gotten to know her well over the last year:
“She’s super nice. She’s super down to earth. She’s great. I think that my dad’s happy so that’s important.”
Aw. So great to hear!
That said, he did acknowledge all the “noise” that comes along with the high-profile romance — but it’s not something out of the ordinary for him as the son of a former Canadian Prime Minister. His mom, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, is also a public figure, so this is just a natural part of his life. He noted that seeing photos of his dad and Katy is “just like any other picture of my dad and my mom. Or just my dad.” The teen expressed:
“My life is so crazy sometimes. I’m like, What is my life? What the hell? I just laugh. The reality of it is, it’s my life. What can I do? What can I change?”
But when it comes to his own growing public persona, he’s learned not to “really care” what anyone says or thinks about him:
“I’ve been told my whole life, ‘Don’t read comments.’ … The hate, it gets to me sometimes. I guess it’s built into my brain, I think of it as when someone comments on my video, when someone shares my video, when someone likes it, it just helps me.”
Well, that’s something we’re sure Katy can help him navigate as well! It’s lovely to hear this romance is going well for the whole family!
