Kacey Musgraves is back on Instagram and she’s letting followers in on her emotional state during a very vulnerable time in her life.
As you’re likely aware, the 31-year-old country music star and her now estranged husband Ruston Kelly recently announced they were getting a divorce after two years of marriage and countless rumors their union was on the rocks. It would appear that processing her feelings about the split might be heavily weighing on her, based on her first upload to the social media platform since late May.

On Monday, Musgraves shared an edited image of herself sitting with her knees pulled up to her chest and her armed wrapped around them. The artist rocked a set of diamond undergarments, matching shiny jewelry, and a glistening pair of butterfly wings are seen on her shoulders. Meanwhile, Kacey had a somber look on her face as sparkly tears streamed down her face.
It’s pretty clear she was embracing the beautiful yet deeply sad vibe in the shot. She included a shoutout to the visual artist who crafted the image in her caption, writing:
“If only tears were actually glittery..made by one of my favorite visual artists, @sarashakeel”

A few scrolls back on her feed and you’ll notice the original April photoshoot which this edit was based on. However, the message she included and what’s going on in her personal life makes this post feel a lot more timely. Sending her lots of love and strength right now!
As we mentioned earlier, the singer and Kelly, who married in 2017, sparked split rumors back in November when they did not attend the CMAs together and Musgraves did not mention Ruston in any acceptance speech for the multiple awards she took home that night. Things got even more suspicious when fans noticed that any trace of their relationship had been wiped clean from their social media profiles earlier this year.
Finally, we gained some clarity on the situation when the pair announced their separation in a joint statement, which reads, in part:
“We’ve made this painful decision together — a healthy decision that comes after a very long period of trying the best we can. It simply just didn’t work. Though we are parting ways in marriage, we will remain true friends for the rest of our lives. We hold no blame, anger, or contempt for each other and we ask for privacy and positive wishes for us both as we learn how to navigate through this.”
FYI, Musgraves told Entertainment Tonight back in November 2018 that she had only seen her man “two times within two months” due to their hectic and competing schedules, so, it seems this was inevitable. As for Kelly, his last few IG uploads have been promoting his latest single, Pressure, which some could interpret the lyrics about separating from his estranged wife:
“Feeling comes, then it goes / I’m thinking fast, I’m moving slow / Wish I could, then I don’t. I probably will, but I hope I won’t / Give into the pressure, all the pressure”
