School drop-off turned into a nightmare at one elementary school in Kansas on Monday morning. A husband allegedly shot his wife outside the school after a “domestic dispute” escalated.
In a news conference, Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter said an unnamed man and woman took a Lyft and dropped off their children at Cessna Elementary School in Wichita around 9:16 a.m. When the kids went inside the building, things took a scary turn. Witnesses claimed he shot the woman in the chest. OMG! The woman “ran towards the school for help,” and he chased her before pointing a gun to her head. Easter continued:
“At the point that our deputy arrived, he had the gun pointing at her head and the deputy took cover.”
Once the husband “stepped a little bit away” from his wife, Easter said the deputy fired two rounds, hitting the suspect. What a horrifying situation… The husband — injured but not fatally shot — was then taken into custody following a “small fight” between him and the deputy. According to the sheriff, the wife was taken to the hospital with a “code red” injury. There are no further details on how she is doing. Meanwhile, the suspect suffered “code blue” wounds.
Thankfully, no other kids or staff members were harmed during the shooting. Easter shared:
“Law enforcement showed up within two minutes of the shooting coming out and it never got into the school itself. There was a district person here [and] a few kids that were outside. She saw the disturbance taking place in the street and so she got some of those kids inside that were coming to school.”
The school was, however, placed into lockdown after the terrifying incident. Law enforcement has not released the identities of the husband and wife involved in the “domestic dispute.” It is unknown what led to the man allegedly shooting the woman outside the school. Police interviewed the Lyft driver who dropped off the family and the witnesses. Hopefully, we will find out more details about the situation soon. Until then, watch the entire news conference (below) for other details on the case:
We hope the victim is OK following this horrible incident. Reactions, Perezcious readers? Let us know in the comments.
