More heartbreaking details continue to come to light surrounding Kate Spade‘s sudden death.
According to new reports, the fashion designer and her husband Andy Spade (David Spade‘s brother) were having “relationship problems” prior to the 55-year-old’s apparent suicide — with sources saying Andy had been apartment shopping in NYC.
As you know, the couple shared 13-year-old daughter Frances Beatrix.

The Blast reports Andy had been looking for a new one or two-bedroom apartment in Manhattan because of marital issues. TMZ adds that Andy was wanting a divorce, and had already been living separately before Kate’s passing. It’s said Kate did not want to break up.
As was suggested by Kate’s older sister Reta Saffo yesterday, the handbag designer self-medicated with alcohol while suffering from mental illness for the last three or four years. TMZ reports that law enforcement sources have said business problems and the separation from Andy were causing Kate to drink even more.
The new report also goes against initial reporting by saying Andy was not in the family’s Park Avenue home at the time of Kate’s death. Andy told police that he was at his own nearby apartment, and that Kate “was drinking a lot.”
Just a devastating situation. We’ll keep you posted, as we’re sure more information will come out soon.
