Guess who has ancestors in Germany??
A lot of people.
But more importantly, Katherine Heigl is following her family tree’s footsteps and tracing her roots back to Esslingen, Germany.
She and her mom Nancy traveled to the European country to tour the house where Nancy’s father Reinhold F. Engelhardt lived before emigrating to the U.S. in the 1920s.
Katherine also met many of her cousins at Esslingen’s Old City Hall where the mayor presented her with gifts, including documents from her family’s history.
She spoke of the trip, saying:
“I worked in Germany when I was 17 in Berlin. This will be my second time in Germany, so it still feels like another country to me, but being here in Esslingen feels very emotional because of the history we have here.”
And German fans were just as excited to see her! She posed for pics and signed autographs for several people waiting to meet her.
What a fascinating trip!
