Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson are here for each other amid their grief over their late Dawson’s Creek co-star James Van Der Beek.
As you know, the 48-year-old actor passed away last month following a battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer. His death has been difficult to process, especially for those who knew him best. Katie and Joshua, who starred alongside James on the beloved teen drama from 1998 to 2003, reportedly have been struggling to “accept” that he is gone because they thought he would beat cancer. An insider told RadarOnline on Friday:
“Neither of them wants to accept this. James was just the greatest guy. It’s a huge loss – and not just for them. They are devastated for his six kids and his wife. He fought so hard to stick around for them, and for a long time, it seemed like he was going to beat this. So to have him not make it is very hard to take.”

Losing someone you love is never easy. We really feel for the pair at this time. According to the source, Joshua and Katie have remained close over the years — so close that they are starring in her new film trilogy, Happy Hours. And now, as they mourn the loss of James, the two are coming together to “support” each other. The source continued:
“They already talk all the time, so it’s natural they are helping support each other through this.”
One of the ways they’re doing so is by creating a memorial video with their favorite memories of James for his six children: Olivia, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, Joshua, and Jeremiah. The RadarOnline insider shared:
“Katie is a very proactive person, so she wants to arrange something that she and Josh and the rest of the cast can contribute to – a video memorial sort of thing – with all their favorite James memories. That way his kids can have that. She will spearhead it, but Josh is all in.”
How thoughtful of Joshua and Katie. James and Kimberly Van Der Beek‘s kids will no doubt appreciate having another piece of their dad to watch whenever they want moving forward.
