Kelis is speaking out.
For the first time ever, the 38-year-old singer/chef is opening up about her allegedly “mentally and physically abusive” relationship with rapper Nas and the status of the former couple’s custody battle now. As you may know, the hip hop artists divorced when the Milkshake songstress was pregnant with their son Knight.

At one point, she tells Hollywood Unlocked:
“We had really intense highs and really intense lows. It was never normal. An intense high would be when money was rolling in. But I was 22 when I met him. We were drinking a lot, getting high a lot. So when that comes down, it was bad … An intense low├óΓé¼┬ª.we had a lot. It was really dark. A lot of drinking. A lot of mental and physical abuse and it got to the point where if I wasn’t pregnant, I might have stayed with him. I was pregnant and it was a mess and I felt like I wasn’t going to bring a child into this.”
She continued, describing being covered in bruises:
“I remember so clearly when the [Rihanna] pictures came out ├óΓé¼┬ª ’cause I [also] had bruises all over my body at that time. I wasn’t ready to walk [away]. I just wasn’t. I’m not weak but I’m really private. I don’t like people knowing my business. I felt like, ‘This is my partner. I chose this. We’re gonna do this, we’re gonna make it work.'”
