Convicted killer Raymond Moody has revealed shocking new details in the case of murdered teen Brittanee Drexel.
If Raymond’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he was arrested for the murder of the 17-year-old — who went missing while on spring break in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2009 — in 2022. He confessed to both raping and murdering Brittanee, and led law enforcement officers to the site where he buried her 13 years prior. He was then sentenced to life in prison.
It’s been a few years now, and the case has been quiet… Until recently.

According to multiple outlets, Raymond cued the FBI in on a whole new layer of the evil crimes: his longtime girlfriend Angel Cooper Vause helped him target, rape, and murder Brittanee.
Per a sentencing memorandum obtained by WCIV, Raymond promised in an interview with the FBI at Lieber Correctional Institution in November of 2024 that he would tell “complete and truthful information about the abduction, rape, and murder of Brittanee” in exchange for something we’ll circle back to later. According to the memorandum, he told investigators he and Angel “were hunting” for a female victim the night they abducted Brittanee after Angel expressed interest in “snatching some girl.” Raymond told the FBI he once received a text from her saying she’d always “fantasized” about such, so he propositioned her to go “hunting” with him. He also noted the pair had previously had consensual sex with an unidentified woman.
According to him, they saw her walking in Myrtle Beach and lured her to their car by claiming they were lost tourists. They offered her a ride back to her hotel and she obliged… But that was far from their true intention. Raymond claimed he had Angel take the wheel so he could restrain Brittanee in the backseat. He claimed he told the girl not to panic as it was something he routinely did to demand $5,000 ransoms from the City Chamber of Commerce. He noted the couple then led Brittanee to a tent they had set up at the Pole Yard Boat Landing in Georgetown. Angel then allegedly left to get their apartment keys, and according to Raymond, instructed her to not rape the girl until she returned.
How terrifying that must have been for poor Brittanee.
Raymond claimed when Angel returned with the apartment keys, he went to go retrieve his sex toys and left her with the victim — a time frame in which he notes Angel had a chance to free Brittanee. When he returned, he raped the teen in the tent while Angel was present. However, he noted she did not take an active part in the assault. He also noted Angel was unaware of his true intentions: to make Brittanee his first murder victim. He claimed he strangled the teen to death with a yellow nylon rope while Angel sat in the tent and watched. After strangling her, he said he stabbed her in the heart with an ice pick, wrapped her in a sleeping bag, loaded her in the trunk, and drove home to sleep for a few hours. After that, he claimed he buried Brittanee’s body by himself as he was nervous Angel wouldn’t be able to keep quiet about the murder as she allegedly expressed fear over the situation.
So horrific!
He told investigators he disposed of Brittanee’s belongings, including her cellphone and wallet, in multiple areas, but held onto the ice pick he stabbed her with for YEARS… Until he grew anxious and ultimately disposed of it in a pond. He also claimed Angel started “coming apart” over the crimes in 2022 when the FBI first interviewed her, but that it was “too late to kill her.”
Such cold-blooded thinking…
He said he gave her a false story to provide the FBI, but is now coming forward with the truth to protect her grandchildren. According to the sentencing memorandum, Raymond exchanged information for Brittanee’s family’s approval to keep a portion of his property in a trust for Angels grandkids. The memorandum states:
“Moody emphasized that he is telling the truth not to be spiteful to Vause, but because he wants to take care of his grandchildren.”
Angel was arrested in March of 2024 on three counts of making false statements to the FBI. And in September, she pleaded guilty to all three counts.
What a completely awful and heartbreaking story. We can’t even begin to imagine how much fear Brittanee felt in her final moments…
