With or without the extended Kardashian-Jenner crew, the drama still never ends when it comes to the annual Christmas card!
Kim Kardashian West explained as much when she appeared on Ellen DeGeneres‘ daytime TV show for Tuesday’s episode!

As we already reported, the KUWTK star was over being “stressed” out by the holiday photo, according to a People source.
“It’s been difficult for them for years to get everyone together for a Christmas card. Last year when Kim organized it, there was a lot of complaining. It really stressed her out. She was over the drama and decided to do one for just her family this year. She knew fans wanted to see her whole family together, so it was important for her to share a special photo.”
The insider continued:
“The photo was taken at their house and it was just a relaxed event. No one was stressed, the kids were happy and it was perfect. Kanye is not a fan of glitz so this is why they are dressed casually.”
Except Kim tells the story a little differently!
Speaking to Ellen, the momma dished one of her four children was giving her a particularly hard time about the festive pic: North West. She shared:
“It’s the most anxiety to get four kids together smiling in a room. North was having a day, so she refused to be in the shoot. She just was crying because she wanted her specific hairstyle, whatever. I said, ‘Fine you’re not gonna be in the card. That’s the decision, you’re not gonna be in the card. I’m just going to take the family card without you.’ And she was fine with that. The next day she woke up and was like ‘Mommy, I really want to do a card.’”
So, the SKIMS founder did what she does best and scrambled to get the perfect shot:
“Thank god the photographer was still in town. She said, ‘I just want a photoshoot with just you.’ So I said ‘Perfect,’ I called the photographer, had her come over. I said, ‘I have no makeup on now, I look totally different. Let’s just pretend — shoot us, but cut me out and you’ll photoshop her in.’ And it looks like a beautiful card.”
The 39-year-old has ZERO regrets, either, telling the comedienne just how difficult it is to wrangle Northie, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm:
“I would’ve rather done it this way than the anxiety of what I went through of trying to get — I mean, Chicago has a cookie in her hand, I was really holding Psalm there, Saint was really there. The rest of us were there, but North … that was a lot. There’s always one!”
Kimmie also further defended not inviting the rest of her fam for the card, saying:
“First of all, it was just a time thing. It was just a time thing of why I couldn’t wrangle everybody and I was like, ‘This isn’t my job. I’m not gonna sit here and try to get everyone to do a card. I’m gonna do one with my kids and my husband and my family.’ And even that was so dramatic.”
We can’t blame her!!
Speaking of drama though, the KKW Beauty mogul did admit there were some hurt feelings after sis Kendall Jenner went on James Corden‘s Late Late Show, which was hosted by Harry Styles that night, and ranked her siblings’ parenting.
In case you don’t remember, the 24-year-old opted to list them out as Rob Kardashian being at the top, followed by Khloé Kardashian, Kim, Kylie Jenner, and Kourtney Kardashian. Of course, Kenny could have avoided answering if she just drank the thousand-year-old egg nog!
Kanye West‘s wife spilled:
“To her defense, she did start it off with, ‘You guys, they are all amazing parents.’ So of course everyone’s going to take just the order.”
But still, she has her big sis’ back:
“I completely understood that Kourtney was sensitive about that because she’s an amazing parent. So Kendall should have just drank or eaten a tarantula, whatever she had to do. I covered up for Khloé and Kylie when they asked me on [James] Corden[‘s show] if they were pregnant, and I drank, like, bird sperm or something. You’ve gotta take one for the family team.”
The change of heart from Kim might be surprising, but she admitted her relationship with Kourt has improved… despite what viewers saw on the season 17 finale!
“Kourtney and I, we just went to Japan together. We’ve really taken the time to hear each other out and listen. What sucks is that season 18 will come out soon and it gets worse before it gets better. Her and I have healed and have talked about everything and have really come to an understanding.”
As for the momma of three’s position when it comes to her reality TV gig, Kardashian West divulged more:
“[Kourtney] likes [doing the show], but only she wants to film just when she feels like it. If one family member goes on vacation a lot or takes time off a lot, the other family members have to step in and take over those hours. So for the past year, Khloé and I have been taking over her hours and working because we need content to make the show. So Khloé and I have been really frustrated that we’ve been working longer and we have kids and a lot of stuff going on, so it’s been exhausting for us when she hasn’t taken that into consideration without making a decision of what she wants to do: stay on the show or not. But to be in this limbo and have us do this for so long is frustrating. So we’ve come to the conclusion that she will film a little bit… it’s always up in the air but we’re in a good place about respecting each other’s space and if someone doesn’t want to be on the show, we obviously want them to have that mental break and live their life the way that they want.”
But do they??
It seems like the answer will be revealed in season 19… if we even get to that point!
