Kim Kardashian Renames Her Shapewear Collection 'SKIMS' -- Um, Okay??

Kim Kardashian changes her shapewear collection's name to SKIMS.

After intense backlash from critics and much thoughtful consideration, Kim Kardashian West has officially renamed her shapewear collection.

In a huge departure from the line’s previously offensive moniker, Kimono, the KUWTK star announced on Monday, August 26 her selection of undergarments will be called SKIMS.

Kanye West‘s wife took to Instagram on Monday to share the news with her followers, writing:

“My fans and followers are a huge inspiration to me – I’m always listening to their feedback and opinions, and am so grateful they shared their ideas for a new brand name. After much thought and consideration, I’m excited to announce the launch of @SKIMS Solutionwear™ coming September 10.”

In her message, the business mogul went on to explain the new name’s significance in relation to what the product will offer consumers, adding:

“I love the idea that the pieces will be the closest thing to someone’s skin, skimming with amazingly soft and supportive fabrics which accentuate the best parts of our bodies. Available in sizes XXS – 5XL, SKIMS Solutionwear™ is for every body. SKIMS.COM. #ShowYourSKIMS”

As we previously reported, more than a few critics — including the mayor of Kyoto, Japan — took issue with the name of her new endeavor, accusing her of cultural appropriation.

Her brand name also left many scratching their heads because the 38-year-old was somehow able to trademark the name of a traditional Japanese garment for her own monetary gain…

Anyway, it sounds like North West‘s momma is ready to put all of that controversy behind her with this rebrand. Although, judging by these promo photos (below), much hasn’t changed for the garments apart from its name:

The SKIMS logo also uses the same exact bubble-shaped typeface that was initially used to market Kimono.

Following the swift and immediately negative response to news of her business venture back in July, the reality TV starlet responded via an official statement to the New York Times, which read:

“I understand and have deep respect for the significance of the kimono in Japanese culture and have no plans to design or release any garments that would any way resemble or dishonor the traditional garment. I made the decision to name my company Kimono, not to disassociate the word from its Japanese roots but as a nod to the beauty and detail that goes into a garment.”

Judging by the slew of positive remarks in the comments section of Kim’s post, maybe this revamp will go over better with fans? Who knows!

We mean, what’s not to love? It’s practically got her name in it — you know, Kim but with an ‘S’? LOLz.

We’re only kidding about that one, but we do want to hear YOUR serious thoughts about SKIMS.
