Kim Kardashian is closing the book on a legal battle that got very messy — but not quite in the way you might be expecting!
According to TMZ on Thursday, the reality TV powerhouse has agreed to walk away from collecting the $167,000 in legal fees she was awarded after defeating a lawsuit brought by a dude named Ivan Cantu.
As you may recall, Cantu is the Texas man who claimed Kimmy Kakes mistakenly used his photo instead of an inmate with the same name while advocating against a death row execution.

Kim deleted the post as soon as she realized the mix-up, denied any wrongdoing, and ultimately won in court when Cantu brought a lawsuit alleging that she’d harmed his reputation with the mistaken photo share. Ivan had sought damages in his legal filing, arguing the mistake caused him personal hardship at the time — but the judge ultimately tossed the case and ordered Cantu to cover Kim’s legal bills.
Well, Ivan then argued that paying such a massive amount would financially devastate him. Oh, and he also pointed out that richy-rich Kim certainly didn’t need the money. Not wrong there! But the judge refused to reduce the award. Cantu later appealed the judge’s ruling.
But that appeal has now been dropped after the two sides reached an agreement for Kim to not come after all the legal fees she’s owed!
A legal rep for Kim told TMZ on Thursday:
“This is a lawsuit that should never have been filed. The Court agreed and threw it out and ordered that [Cantu] pay Kim’s legal fees. Kim agreed to waive those fees and so [Ivan] has dismissed his case with prejudice.”
So, while Kim came out on top in court, she’s decided not to collect the six-figure judgment after all — even though she won it fair and square. How very magnanimous of her.
Sometimes winning the case is enough — and this legal saga now appears to be over!
