Does a new Knicks coach spell the end for Linsanity?
Even though Jeremy Lin has proven himself a valuable asset to the team, the breakout star may be losing a lot of opportunities to prove himself on the court.
Mike Woodson, who replaced head coach Mike D’Antoni, was predicted to prefer veterans to rookies and has since confirmed that strategy by saying:
“It’s everybody’s ballclub. But I want everyone to know that when it comes [crunch] time and I got to get a big shot, I’m going to Melo and Amar’e and guys who have done it. A lot of these guys are young and still trying to figure it out. Those guys have been around the block a number of times and have done it. They’ll be go-to guys coming down the stretch.’’
Unfortunately for Lin, that means he’ll be forced to pass the ball to players like Carmelo Anthony and Amar├óΓé¼Γäóe Stoudemire instead of taking a shot at NBA glory.
Woodson pretty much dashed the popular athlete’s hopes of continuing his astounding run, that started with 7 straight wins, as he said in a statement:
“I remember playing for a great coach in Red Holzman. He taught me rookies were to sit, listen and learn. He taught me a valuable lesson way back when. I listened and learned a lot as a rookie.’’
We’re looking forward to see how the coaching change affects the Knicks’ game, but one thing is for sure — Jeremy Lin better start accepting as many endorsement deals as he can before Linsanity is a distant memory!
