Kong: Skull Island Wins BIG At This Weekend's Box Office!

no title
This weekend was a big winner for Kong: Skull Island!
The reboot debuted overseas to $81.6 million and brought in another $61 million from the domestic side alone to give it a $142.6 million opening weekend — a BIG number for the number one movie in America right now!

As expected with a debut that big, Logan fell to number two on the week — although the Hugh Jackman flick still raced past $150 million in its U.S. cume, and is now up to $430 million worldwide after having been in theaters for a few weeks now.
But the big story is Kong, the world’s most famous ape story that is now part of a new franchise that, by the looks of it, is doing really really well with viewers!
There is one problem, of course: Kong: Skull Island cost about $185 million to make and then went through a HUGE marketing push, so it probably has to earn back half a *billion* dollars globally to re-make its money. But, hey — they are off to a good start after this weekend!!
The flick had been expected to earn about $50 million tops this week, so the fact that it has cracked $60 million on the domestic side is a big deal — and bodes well for the immediate future for this movie, as well as the coming franchise sequels.
Now, after Logan in the second spot (that film took in $37.9 million on its second weekend), Jordan Peele is still winning at the box office with a $21 million total in Get Out‘s third weekend in theaters. That brings the film up above the $100 million mark, to $111.1 million, though Sunday.
And remember — Get Out cost just $5 million to make.
Not a bad investment at all…
What’d U see in theaters this weekend, Perezcious readers?!
