Kristen Stewart Reflects On Her Relationship With Robert Pattinson -- 'So Much Was Taken From Us'

kristen stewart looks back on dating robert pattinson

Hello, it’s 2010 calling!

Kristen Stewart is looking forward to a bright future, but not without looking back on what it’s taken to get her there, which includes her relationship with Robert Pattinson. In conversation with Harper’s Bazaar UK, the actress is opening up about dating her costar, living a label-free life, and reclaiming her “awkward” identity.

Despite efforts to maintain privacy around their relationship, KStew and R-Patz struggled to define their relationship to the press during the peak of their Twilight fame:

“When me and Rob were together, we did not have an example to go by. So much was taken from us that, in trying to control one aspect, we were just like, ‘No, we will never talk about it. Never. Because it’s ours.'”

Many of those uncomfortable interviews landed the Bella Swan portrayer the title of being “awkward,” in public, an adjective she’s now reclaiming:

“I try to avoid the word ‘awkward.’ I want to reclaim that word, because it’s been used too violently against me. I used to sit in interviews and go, ‘God, I wonder what they’re going to ask me,’ but now — literally — you can ask me anything.”

But even once she called it quits with her costar after a few years of dating, the public didn’t lose interest in her relationships, especially once she became romantically linked to women. Today, Stewart keeps her sexuality label-free, she explained:

“I just think we’re all kind of getting to a place where — I don’t know, evolution’s a weird thing — we’re all becoming incredibly ambiguous. And it’s this really gorgeous thing.”

However, her radical honesty has come at a price over the years:

“I have fully been told, ‘If you just like do yourself a favor, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie.’ I don’t want to work with people like that.”

She continued (below):

“Well, I think I just wanted to enjoy my life. And that took precedence over protecting my life, because in protecting it, I was ruining it.”

So what’s next on the horizon for Kristen? Aside from the late fall release of Charlie’s Angels, Miz Stewart is preparing for her directorial debut. Just 40 pages into reading the memoir The Chronology of Water, about a young swimmer dealing with addiction, she sent off an email to the author Lidia Yuknavitch, and shortly after bought the rights to the book.

The script has been in the works for several years, and the 29-year-old hopes to keep it open to interpretation once production begins:

“I know how precious it is –I’ve done it. I can’t wait to make sure that I don’t mess up anyone’s chance to be great.”

Despite the bumps in the road which she’s encountered thus far in life, the Snow White and the Huntsman actress is content with where she’s at:

“Every day I get older, life gets easier.”

Clearly, awkward Kristen is no more!!
