The Donny & Marie Show has been a big hit on the Vegas strip and has brought in a lot of money for the Flamingo Hotel. However, one of the shows producers is suing the singing siblings, claiming that Donny Osmond conspired to cut him out of his contract and cut the show short!
Labeling Donny “devious, fraudulent and greedy”, the producer, Chip Lightman, claims the Osmond brother “concocted a scheme” to back out of a deal to extend the show until 2012. In his suit, Chip alleges that Donny told the execs at the Flamingo he would pull out of the residency by next week if “the Flamingo did not terminate any and all agreements” with Lightman.
Donny seems like a pretty mild mannered man! You’d have to have really pissed him off if you got him to want you fired!
Regardless, the producer is suing both Donny and Marie Osmond for unspecified damages for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, fraud and contractual interference. It took no time at all for the Osmonds’ lawyer to catch wind of this and immediately released a statement, saying:
“Of course, we are surprised and disappointed that Mr. Lightman took such precipitous action, especially in light of the substantial sums he has been paid, despite the facts that he neither created, financed or owns the show, nor does he engage the 48 talented and dedicated people who produce and perform the show each night.”
In other words, you’re not pulling your weight, bud! You should be fired!
