Ouch.
We hate to hear this. Especially at this time of year.
Dr. D Studios, the digital production studio behind Happy Feet Two, will be forced to let go of 600 of the 700 Sydney-based employees in the coming weeks, due to the poor box-office performance of the animated sequel, which grossed only $30.3 million of its $140 million budget worldwide as of Thursday.
There are reports that many of these employees have been offered jobs with a new company that the founders of Dr D, Kennedy-Miller Mitchell Films, plan to launch in 2012, so we sincerely hope that this is able to come through, and that many of these people can have new and successful employment soon.
They’re all in our thoughts.
