Great job, web users!
Legislators are running for the hills after web activists led a charge against the Protect IP Act.
Senators Roy Blunt (R-MO), Marco Rubio (R-FL) and John Cornyn (R-TX) have all backed out of PIPA.
Blunt, a co-author of PIPA, wrote on Facebook (oddly enough) that the act “is flawed as it stands today, and [he] cannot support it moving forward.”
Rubio took it a step further and asked Majority Leader Harry Reid to “abandon his plan to rush the bill to the floor├óΓé¼┬¥ and ├óΓé¼┼ôcome up with new legislation that addresses Internet piracy while protecting free and open access to the Internet.”
Score one for the Internet!
In the related Stop Online Piracy Act, House reps Ben Quayle (R-AZ) and Lee Terry (R-NE) have pulled out of SOPA.
Sites like Amazon, Wikipedia, and Facebook have urged users to support the efforts against PIPA and SOPA.
Rallies are sprouting across the country. New York Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand have seen rallies on their office doorsteps!
We need to continue the fight against these unjust initiatives!
PIPA and SOPA are going down!
