Being privileged isn’t always a walk in Central Park, you guys. Take it from Lena Dunham, who has been in the crosshairs of outrage culture over the past decade for being… well, Lena Dunham.
The Camping auteur opened up about her life in a lengthy profile for The Cut, in which she got candid about her ex boyfriend Jack Antonoff, the conspiracy that she kills all her pets, and how she became the embodiment of white privilege, among other woes.

In response to her laundry list of race-related controversies — which includes her non-diverse casting on Girls, her solution to which being to cast Donald Glover as a black Republican boyfriend, her saying she wasn’t racist because she wanted “to f**k Drake” — Dunham admitted that race is a blind spot for her because she didn’t grow up around much diversity, only “very specific, liberal provocateurs.”
But over the past few years, she’s learned to consider the opinions of others outside her liberal provocateur bubble. For example, when sending the reporter a video of a hairless black puppy she was thinking of adopting and naming Rosa, Duham wrote:

“I’m worried people will get mad bc of Rosa Parks bc I have to consider those things.”

See… she’s learning?
The 32-year-old has to be sensitive when it comes to taking in new pets, as there’s been a long running internet conspiracy theory that she kills all the animals she takes in.
This theory began last year when Dunham gave up her adopted dog, Lamby, because it bit her on the ass and had severe anxiety. Soon after, a Sphynx cat she had adopted died suddenly, which was followed by the passing of her 13-year-old Yorkie.
Despite all that, Dunham says she’s a very responsible pet owner:

“You can say a lot of shit about me, but I am a very committed pet owner. Ask anybody who works with me on a pet level.”

As for the employee from the shelter she adopted Lamby from, who came after her claiming the dog was fine until she adopted him, she said:

“Also, what animal-shelter guy is like, ‘I’m an electronic DJ, and I’m also looking to talk to Yahoo! Celebrity’? But dragging him through the court of public opinion like that doesn’t get me anywhere. It’s better just to kick back and be like, ‘Okay, sir, you can extend your career by telling people what a bad dog owner I was.’ …That was one where I was truly like, Welp! Ain’t life rich.”

Nowadays, Dunham is the proud owner of three “interesting” looking hairless Sphynx cats, which she says make it a “chore” for getting her ex-boyfriend to come over.
Yes, Duhman and the Bleachers musician are still close. She revealed:

“I texted Jack last week and said, ‘HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE DATED SOMONE EVERYBODY HATES?’ in all capitals. He wrote back, ‘They only hate you because they love you so much, true story.’ Which is like, What a sweetie. What a liar and a sweetie.”

But don’t ask her about the rumors that Antonoff briefly dated Lorde after the two broke up last year — because she doesn’t know!

While Duhman was friends with the Green Light songstress before she and Antonoff called it quits, she admitted she hasn’t spoken to Lorde since the two split. But she offered:

“I don’t think anything happened between them. I can never know someone else’s life. I have never spoken to Ella [Lorde] about it. We haven’t talked since Jack and I broke up. It was awful, and I couldn’t do anything about it except trust that what he was saying to me was true.”

If blindly trusting her ex wasn’t the biggest lesson Dunham learned recently, it was to not to defend a colleague accused of sexual assault after getting surgery. Dunham revealed she was “high as a f**king kite” from her surgery when she defended Girls writer and producer Murray Miller who was accused of rape by actress Aurora Perrineau.
At the time, Dunham thought people would know she wasn’t coming from a damaging place when she said the allegation was one of the few that were “misreported” every year, since she’s been such an advocate for sexual assault victims in the past.
All that backlash, however, including her raising eyebrows by posing with the architects of the Time’s Up movement at the Golden Globes protest despite not going to any of the group’s previous meetings, has made Dunham come to a startling realization:

“My voice isn’t needed.”

Girl really has come a long way.
