Leslie Jones got some Twitter heat late Tuesday night for tweeting something that many people thought was transphobic.

The tweet in question (above) referred to men as “bitches” and followers were quick to call her out on it by saying that the language was harmful and triggering to transgender people.
Many followers attempted to explain the reasoning to Leslie without attacking her:
@Lesdoggg I think your Twitter account must have been hacked because I doubt you hate trans men like that tweet suggests

@Lesdoggg I didn’t call you mean, but you don’t have to intend harm to do harm. “Real man” talk is triggering to some

Hey @Lesdoggg, most folks were thoughtfully explaining why your tweet was offensive. Their points were valid, even if ur offense unintended.

@Lesdoggg I totally get that. But in this particular instance, the tweet was fraught with language/phrasing that causes real harm to folks.

Y’all, @Lesdoggg can be awesome & also wrong about how harmful her joke was to trans men & nonmasculine men. We want to educate, not attack.

The tweet was eventually deleted but Leslie went on to defend herself and try to explain the real intent behind it:

Do YOU think it was just a harmless joke or did the Ghostbusters star take it too far?
