Bravo!
LGBT themes, characters, and performers have hit an all-time high on primetime television.
28% of all primetime TV have shows that feature LGBT themes and has even inspired a new report titled “The New Mainstream.”
One in four scripted series and one in five reality shows in the 2010-2011 season included gay characters, actors and/or storylines, including Modern Family, Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, 90210, Glee, House, Dancing With The Stars, and Big Brother 12.
Matt O’Grady of EVP, Audience Measurement at Nielsen says:
“The inclusion of LGBT characters on TV more accurately portrays the diverse and multicultural society we live in by encompassing all segments of the population.”
What a huge important step for TV to finally catch up with modern issues. It’s wonderful that television is finally creating storylines and characters that reflect EVERYONE.
