Oh no! Lionel Richie just suffered a health scare while performing on stage!
On Wednesday night, Nicole Richie’s dad launched the Sing A Song All Night Long Tour with Earth Wind and Fire, but things didn’t go according to plan. After kicking off the Saint Paul, Minnesota concert at the Grand Casino Arena at around 9:00 p.m., Lionel noticeably began to struggle while singing Dancing on the Ceiling, according to eyewitnesses. In fan footage circulating online, the 77-year-old can be seen taking a seat multiple times throughout the performance. Watch (below):
According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, he offered a concerning explanation to the crowd:
“When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down.”
We’re glad he didn’t push himself to stay on his feet! That could have resulted in a nasty fall!

The iconic singer went on to sit at his piano to perform Three Times a Lady, before calling for an intermission. His band remained ready to rock on stage as Lionel excused himself for a break, but after about 15 minutes, they departed as well. And by the 40 minute mark, saxophonist Dino Soldo came out to address the confused crowd:
“Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available.”
Oh no!!! We really hope he’s okay! And takes as MUCH time as he needs to get back to 100 percent health!
Earlier on Wednesday, Lionel had taken to Instagram to share his excitement about taking the stage:
“Opening night. Rehearsals. Sound check. Showtime tonight. Saint Paul, you’re up!!!”

So sad! He was clearly SO excited!
But while this may be a setback for the American Idol judge, if a 2020 interview of his still rings true, he’s not going anywhere. He told Rolling Stone at the time:
“They’re gonna have to carry me out, babe … Someone asked me years ago, ‘When do you plan on retiring?’ And I said, ‘From what?’ I’ve never had a job. People who work want to retire.”
Love that!
The joint Sing A Song All Night Long Tour has 26 North American dates. Next up is Friday night at Chicago’s United Center, though it’s unclear as of now whether or not Lionel will be making it.
We’re sending healing vibes his way!
