Louis C.K. Tells Crowd He'd 'Rather Be In Auschwitz Than New York City'

Louis C.K. made a “joke” about the Holocaust in front of a predominantly Jewish audience while performing a stand-up show on Thursday in Tel Aviv, Israel. To the crowd, he cracked:

“I’d rather be in Auschwitz than New York City. I mean now, not when it was open.”

Per reports, the joke did get a laugh out of the audience, though it’s unclear if it actually landed as funny or surprising. For the record, the disgraced 52-year-old’s paternal grandfather was Jewish, though we still don’t understand how that makes his “joke” acceptable.

Over 1.3 million people were deported to the Nazi-operated camp in Poland during World War II, with an estimated 1.1 million killed before it was liberated in January 1945. The former concentration and extermination camp operates today as a museum and memorial.

Louis was reportedly discussing how difficult it’s been for him in the Big Apple in the wake of his November 2017 #MeToo scandal. At the time, the comedian would not comment on the sexual harassment allegations he faced, but later confirmed them, saying he initially thought it “was O.K. because I never showed a woman my d**k without asking first.”

During his Thursday set, he seemed to reference his troubled past, and shared with the crowd:

“If they say ‘yes,’ then still don’t do it, because it’s not popular.”

In the wake of the allegations made against him, he lost his TV deal with FX, his movie I Love You, Daddy, along with his agent and management after admitting to making female coworkers and comedians watch him masturbate.

Though the fallout was swift following the claims, he surprisingly returned to the stage in August 2018 at the Comedy Cellar in NYC. Since then, he has continued to face a mix of criticism and support over the past year as he has begun to somewhat unsuccessfully (as we mentioned, ticket sales were reportedly high for the show in question) dip his toes back into public water.

The four-time Saturday Night Live host has upcoming scheduled shows in Slovakia and Hungary, as well as domestic performances booked in New Orleans, Houston, Akron, Ohio and Detroit through February. It is unclear if and when he will book a new show in New York.
