Louis C.K. didn’t shy away from making one “uncomfortable” joke during his stand up set, according to two women in attendance.
As we reported, the 50-year-old returned to comedy with a non-consensual bang on Sunday with a surprise set at New York’s Comedy Cellar. The appearance, his first since admitting to sexual misconduct in November, was reportedly met with rousing applause from the crowd and rousing disdain from critics and comedians on Twitter.
Two female audience members who witnessed the set confirmed that several women in the crowd were “not having” Louis’s appearance, adding that they didn’t know about it ahead of time and felt like he was “thrust upon” them.

One of the women told Vulture:
“There were at least four to five females that I could see, and three or four of them were not having it. They were just looking at him, deadpan, straight, not having it.”
Both of the women interviewed said Louis’s jokes were similar to his usual raunchy material, but one joke involving a rape whistle made them straight up cringe.
According to them, the comedian used the phrase “clean as a whistle,” which built up to a joke about how rape whistles are not clean. One of the women explained:
“When he said ‘rape whistle’ people were laughing, and I was just sitting there like oh my f**k. This is so uncomfortable and so disgusting. Everyone around me was laughing. That was just depressing.”
As depressing as it was, the women felt all they could do was sit back and take the unexpected set so they wouldn’t seem like “bad sports”:
“If someone had heckled him, I think they would’ve been heckled out. It felt like there were a lot of aggressive men in the audience and very quiet women. It’s the kind of vibe that doesn’t allow for a dissenting voice. You’re just expected to be a good audience member. You’re considered a bad sport if you speak out.”
There may have been more than a few bad sports in the Cellar, though. One of the woman claimed that the applause at the end of the comedian’s set was “way quieter” than the entrance round, noting:
“I was actually surprised personally how his exit round of applause compared to his entrance round of applause. It was way quieter for sure. There was a huge difference in that volume or in those number of claps.”
The club’s owner Noam Dworman said he was given no notice about the comedian’s arrival, telling The Hollywood Reporter that Louis came unannounced after performing at another small gig he “wasn’t happy with.”

He explained:
“He just walked in and went on. That’s it. No advance warning. We’re not the first place he appeared. He did a spot at Governor’s [of Levittown], which is a comedy club in Long Island, apparently before he came here. I found this out late in the day. And it was a very, very light crowd and he apparently wasn’t happy with it and he decided on a spur of the moment to come to the Comedy Cellar.”
We’re guessing he wasn’t thrilled about that Comedy Cellar gig, either.
Maybe it’s because he’s trying to launch a comedy comeback less than a year after admitting to jerking off at several aspiring female comedians and not even remotely addressing it in his set?
Do yourself a favor and stay in hiding for a bit longer, Louis.
