Lupita Nyong'o Rocks A Fresh Bob & Recalls Being Scolded Onset As Ralph Fiennes' Assistant

Good thing she never has to be an assistant again!
While looking gorgeous on the cover of Rhapsody magazine (only available first class on United flights), Lupita Nyong’o remembers the shenanigans she got into while she was a production assistant about a decade ago.

As Ralph Fiennes‘ helper on the set of The Constant Gardener in 2005, the Kenyan-born star’s idle chitchat was sometimes irksome:

“Ralph is a very still man on set. It would be very quiet, and that made me uncomfortable. I’d try to make chitchat, asking, ‘What’s your favorite film? Of all the films you’ve been in, which have you enjoyed the most?’ He was so polite, and he responded to me. At one point, though, he just said, ‘Lupita, give me my space.'”

Now that she’s almost always on set as one of the stars herself, the 32-year-old finds the need for space as well:

“The time before a camera rolls, the moments before my foot steps on a stage, have to be meditative. I have to withdraw from the world as I know it. It’s about listening quietly to my inner motor.”

The actress also recalled a time when she got into trouble while talking onset:

“Suddenly the assistant director was white in the face with rage. He said, ‘You never interrupt the director!’ I didn’t even know who the director was.”

Those days are far behind her, though, as now she’s the one with an assistant!
We bet she’s super nice to whoever has that job! LOLz!
