Mackenzie Shirilla‘s ex-girlfriend is coming forward to make new bombshell claims about the convicted killer!
Perezcious readers know she has been at the Ohio Reformatory for Women after being sentenced to serve 15 years to life for killing her 20-year-old boyfriend Dominic Russo and his 19-year-old friend Davion Flanagan in a brutal car crash. And while behind bars, Mackenzie had a girlfriend, Shyann Topping. Now, Shyann is opening up about life with the murderer.

In an interview with People on Tuesday, Shyann said she first noticed Mackenzie after she was transferred to the Ohio Reformatory for Women in 2023. They then officially met on the outdoor track at the facility:
“I walked up to her and said, ‘You look good.'”
According to Shyann, the pair started dating shortly afterward:
“When it started off we were good. We were just walking the track, she was smiling, because in prison —two weeks in prison feels like two months. All you’re doing is seeing the same people every single day, 24 hours a day.”
And they moved fast! By day two or three of the romance, Shyann claimed Mackenzie told her:
“Why aren’t you touching me? I want you to be all over me. I want you to be out here for everyone in the yard to see me.”
Shyann said they formed a deep connection from there. Little did she know, however, that Mackenzie allegedly had been lying to her during their romance. The pair continued to date after Shyann got out of prison, but things between them started to fizzle after she started researching the fatal crash. When Shyann confronted Mackenzie and asked questions about what happened, she claims she got very few answers. She eventually realized she was misled about the details of the killings, and they broke up. She also began in August 2025 to post a series of videos on TikTok talking about her relationship with Mackenzie. Watch (below):

Soon after the first video, Shyann alleged she received threats and texts and got doxed and started to fear for her safety:
“It was crazy because after I found out [the details] of her case and we stopped talking to each other and it fizzled out, people started texting me and saying crazy stuff to me.”
Shyann claimed the texts included her mother’s name and her home address. How scary! She thinks the inmates locked up with Mackenzie sent the messages, but regardless, it terrified her enough that she stopped posting… until the new Netflix documentary came out, The Crash.
If you’ve seen it, you know that Mackenzie broke her silence on the incident for the first time and proclaimed her innocence. Prosecutors have maintained the car crash was a botched murder-suicide, and she intentionally accelerated the car to 100 mph, never once hitting the brakes before slamming into the brick wall and killing Dominic and Davion. Mackenzie swears she never deliberately murdered the two men, though. She claims she passed out behind the wheel due to POTS, a chronic condition that can cause dizziness and fainting.
But Shyann alleged that is not what she heard from Mackenzie! She had no idea about the fatal crash before meeting the 21-year-old because she was in prison, and whatever Mackenzie said made her ex-girlfriend think she was innocent and a victim of a corrupt judicial system:
“When I was in [prison], I honestly believed maybe she’s not guilty because of the limited information I had.”
In fact, Shyann planned to “fight for [Mackenzie’s] release” and “possibly be an advocate” for her cause when she got out of prison. Plans changed once she learned Mackenzie was “not a good person”:
“When I first got out [of prison] I was like, ‘Oh, they don’t know what this girl’s been through.’ And then I started going through everything and seeing the evidence and I started thinking about her and I realized, ‘Oh my God, maybe she’s not a good person.'”
OMG! What was the story Mackenzie was telling Shyann? That’s what we really want to know now! Spill the tea!
