Even if you’re not her biggest fan, this is kind of harsh…
As you’re probably aware, Madonna closed out the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night with a touching tribute to Prince.
Queen Madge was joined onstage by Stevie Wonder to perform Nothing Compares 2 U and Purple Rain, and while the covers were quite beautiful, it seems as though a lot of the Internet was upset they weren’t “Prince” enough.

However, things really took a dramatic turn shortly after the show, because the BET Awards straight up called Madonna out for doing a terrible job!
In fact, they promoted their very own Prince tribute while trashing the BBMAs on Twitter, posting:
DAYUM!!!
Not one to back down, Madonna stuck up for herself on Instagram Monday morning after the attack, saying:
“Anyone who wants to do a tribute to Prince is welcome to. Whatever your age Gender or skin Color. If you loved him and he inspired you then show it!!!! I love Prince 4 ever ├░┼╕ΓÇÖ┼ô├ó╦£ΓÇ¥├»┬╕┬Å├░┼╕ΓÇÿΓÇÿ├░┼╕Γäó┬Å├░┼╕┬Å┬╗
Fair point.
Although we do have a feeling BET will put on one spectacular show!

Luckily, the Like a Virgin singer wasn’t the only person defending her performance — Questlove also entered the conversation with a passionate Twitter rant late Sunday night, saying:
Woah.
Did U think Madonna’s performance was really that controversial??
Make sure to catch the next Prince tribute at the BET Awards on Sunday, June 26 at 8 p.m. EST on BET!
