Madonna Removes Luther Vandross Pic From AIDS Tribute After MAJOR Mix-Up!

Madonna Removes Luther Vandross From AIDS Tribute On Celebration Tour At Request Of His Estate!

Madonna is making a correction to one part of her tour!

During The Celebration Tour, the 65-year-old singer has paid tribute to several of her late friends and other celebrities who have died from AIDS. She’s done so through a video montage as she sings her 1986 song Live to Tell. The public figures honored include Herb Ritts, Freddie Mercury, and Keith Haring.

It is a very touching moment in the show. But there was a little problem with the tribute! While performing in Sacramento, California, on Saturday, she added a new person to it — singer Luther Vandross. But the issue there is that the R&B artist died in 2005 due to complications from a prior stroke, and not AIDS. So when his image popped up in the tribute, his estate was shocked. And they wanted the mistake fixed ASAP! A spokesperson told Page Six:

“Luther Vandross passed away in 2005 due to complications from a stroke suffered two years earlier. While we appreciate Madonna’s recognition of those lives lost to AIDS, Luther was NEVER diagnosed with AIDS or the HIV Virus. We’re not sure where she or her production team received false medical information claiming otherwise. We’re currently in contact with her management to remove Luther Vandross from the tribute.”

While Luther was alive, he faced speculation he had AIDS. He even once sued a tabloid for reporting in 1985 that his drastic weight loss was due to the condition! So was this just an innocent mistake?! Perhaps Madonna had simply received some wrong information? Whatever happened, it has been fixed! Reps for the Material Girl artist said they’ve removed his photo from the tribute and it won’t be in future shows.

What a strange situation. But at least it’s OK now? Reactions? Let us know in the comments.
