As you all know, Madonna is a force of nature. And this week, her wind is ruffling the feathers of young, Polish Catholics hoping to keep August 1 a sacred day of WWII memorial.
Her madgesty is set to perform for Warsaw on that date, but with all the controversy surrounding her (projecting a swastika on Marine Le Pen, the various activities she’s done involving crucifixes, etc.), they want it canceled! Now!
As of Tuesday, there are 31,000 signatures on the Youth Crusade petition. They say August 1 is meant to commemorate the 1944 Warsaw Uprising against the Nazi occupiers, when 200,000 died:
“August 1 is a day of remembrance in Poland. We pay our respects to those who survived and those who perished in the uprising. We won’t allow the desecration of our hallowed symbols.”
In a possible effort to soothe those offended, city officials have proposed a moment of silence before the concert begins at the National Stadium (which holds 73,000).
Well! As much as they don’t want it, we don’t think Madge has anything to worry about. There are always more lovers than haters!
