A marvelous Maine couple just upheld the sanctity of their marriage and the sanctity of our democracy with one AH-Mazing gesture!
David Johnson and his wife Jennifer adore each other completely, but they adore their country even more!
That’s why the perfectly awesome patriots ran against each other for the Ward 1 seat in a recent Waterville, Maine election!! Their purpose was to encourage local participation and show the community around them that good-natured debates about the role of government can occur without any political yucky-ness!
We’re sure this is exactly what the Founding Fathers had in mind when they designed our system of government! Well, except for the part about women running for stuff! And non-white or non-property owners or non-males doing that whole voting thing!
Hmm, maybe they weren’t so perfect after all!
Regardless, our current ultra-fussy Congress should take cues from this couple!!! This is how civil elections are run!!
For what it’s worth, Jennifer, who ran on the Democratic ticket, beat her Republican-affiliated husband 127 to 76.
Hooray for democracy!! Hooray for America!!
