OMG! Now There's A Major Egg Recall Too! Beware The Salmonella!

We’re dealing with an outbreak of an explosive diarrhea parasite AND a potentially catastrophic Ebola outbreak — and now we have to worry about Salmonella too?! Summer of 2026 is turning out to be a rough one!

According to a notice from the Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday, Midwest Poultry Services L.P. is voluntarily recalling 1,589,577 dozen eggs, which is over 19 million eggs in total, due to possible Salmonella Enteritidis contamination.

Salmonella is “an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.” People infected often suffer from fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and, in rare instances, can cause more severe illnesses like arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis. The contaminated eggs were produced and distributed from farms in Texas between June 6 and July 3, with sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and August 17. They were then sent to Kroger stores in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi, and other smaller retail outlets. In the grocery stores, the eggs are sold under the brand names Kroger, Brookshire’s, Simple Truth, and Country Morning.

The FDA stated Midwest Poultry Services discovered the contamination issue “through proactive environmental monitoring practices and root cause analysis,” and any products from the two affected farms are not being distributed at this time. No other products from the company are being recalled, and they are unaware of any illnesses related to the recall at this time.
