Man Gets One Year Probation For Making Defiant Son Walk A Mile Home From School

A father in Hawaii is receiving a punishment himself for punishing his son.
The man, Robert Demond, received a year of probation and a $200 fine for making his son walk a mile home from school to discipline him.
Judge Kathleen Watanabe called Robert’s punishment “old-school” and said it was no longer appropriate.
Apparently, he picked up his son from school and asked about a matter that was brought to his attention. The boy, whose age is unknown, wouldn’t respond to his father.
So Robert made him walk home to think about what he had done. He said that was a common form of punishment when he was growing up.
The judge said that times are different, child predators and traffic and all.
Robert has to attend a parenting class now because he was convicted of a misdemeanor, endangering the welfare of a minor.
Hopefully next time he’ll realize the danger inherent in letting his child walk home alone.
