Twitter wasted no time to call out the 53-year-old for the cultural appropriation!
Well later that day, Marc responded to those claims on one of his Instagram posts, writing:

“and all who cry ‘cultural appropriation’ or whatever nonsense about any race or skin color wearing their hair in any particular style or manner – funny how you don’t criticize women of color for straightening their hair. I respect and am inspired by people and how they look. I don’t see color or race- I see people. I’m sorry to read that so many people are so narrow minded… Love is the answer. Appreciation of all and inspiration from anywhere is a beautiful thing. Think about it”

Hmm. It seemed his color blind argument didn’t go over well with some IG users, who replied to him with:

“@petitefieryone: @marcjacobs I’m unfollowing because this appropriation of Black people’s hair is unacceptable. I always thought you did exciting and beautiful fashion until this fiasco. I’m so disappointed.
@char_is_lean: “@themarcjacobs just so you know niece…straight hair isn’t exclusive to white women…and you are full of sh*t…you “didn’t mean to offend” you knew exactly what you were saying…and f*ck your brand moving forward
@king.kourtt: “@themarcjacobs saying “I don’t see color” is honestly just a way of avoiding the obvious issue at hand. Racism and culture appropriation so exist! By avoiding the problem you are the problem. Please remember that. This is something I have learned only a month ago and was oblivious to. But by having these conversations, in a respectful manner of course, we can turn this situation into a positive learning opportunity.”

Jacobs later responded to one user, sharing:

“I will read and learn. My remark had to do with hair and inspiration. I did not intend to offense ANYONE at all. It’s not my nature-“

So, there you have it. You can ch-ch-check out his Instagram comment (below):

Do U agree with Marc or do U feel he’s just ignorant to the problem?
