Breakups can be a messy business.
Even rumors of separation can totally throw someone off balance…which might explain Mariah Carey‘s not-so-stellar Tokyo performance over the weekend!
And while we’re still puzzling over the exact details of the situation she and Nick Cannon have found themselves in, we’ve ALSO been scratching our heads over Mimi’s recent wardrobe choices.

Sometimes all that inner turmoil can have visible outward effects, so maybe the Elusive Chanteuse has been subconsciously hinting as to the state of her relationship through her styles!?
Or maybe she’s just been experimenting fashion-wise, ha!
Let’s take a look at what’s been going on with Mariah’s clothing over the past few months…
This is the very first time Mimi was spotted in public after Nick seemingly confirmed that the two were separated:
As you can see, there’s a lot going on here — in fact, TOO much going on! Between the hat, sunnies, extra-wide belt, long necklace, shoulder bag, tied up purple dress, and hot pink shoes we don’t know where to look first. Then again, maybe that’s strategic!!
Following that outfit, Mariah wore two looks the next day. Here’s one of them:
This one isn’t so bad! We’re loving the classic black and white palate, and that wrap dress really works for Miz Carey’s curves! There are still quite a few accessories, but not as many as the previous day.

This combination of wardrobe pieces is definitely interesting! It almost looks like Mariah is trying to be mysterious or something with the trench coat and sunglasses. But then the shoes take a totally different style direction! They almost look like they could be lingerie for feet — maybe she’s on the prowl!
You can also see in all these pics that Mimi has replaced her wedding ring with a butterfly ring. She made that fact especially apparent with this Instagram pic:
Like, HELLO! She obviously wants everyone to see that left hand! Then again, maybe the ring is just a subtle way of promoting her ‘Butterfly’ drink?
Mariah’s next Instagram photo was also an attention grabber, as you can see:
While in her previous pic it was obvious Mariah wanted everyone to notice the ring, in this pic it’s pretty clear she wants everyone to notice her cleavage!! Everything about that LBD and dangling necklace draws attention to her bust.
Mimi’s next snap showcases the time she tried to do her own makeup:
She captioned the photo:
“I did my own make up .. eyeliner looks a mess gotta get those 500 more hours!!! Lol”
Hmm. It’s true her eyeliner could use some work, but overall she looks happy and healthy! Maybe things between her and Nick aren’t so bad after all!
The next few pics of Mariah show her rehearsing for her ‘Elusive Chanteuse’ show:
It’s hard to tell what’s going on here because everything is shrouded in darkness! Kind of like all the info on Mimi’s marriage!
Then, the 44-year-old mother-of-two spent some time with her kids at the aquarium:
She dressed casually and appropriately for the occasion (well, minus the heels) and still managed to look smokin’ hot! Even the dolphins behind her couldn’t help but check her out!!

That’s one SUPER revealing thigh slit!! But while her legs look gorge, that hair could definitely use some help.
