August 5th marks fifty years since the iconic and desperately sad figure, Marilyn Monroe, died from barbiturate poisoning at the age of 36.
Days before her death – as told in Lawrence Schiller’s soon to be released memoir Marilyn & Me – the insecure starlet coaxed Schiller into photographing her entering a pool clothed, and after, emerging naked.
In Vanity Fair’s June Issue, Schiller debuts these lost nude photos of the blonde beauty and recounts his experiences with Marilyn in her final days.
He remembers the morning after her death when he found his nude photograph of Marilyn on his desk, with the message: “Send this to Playboy, they might like it.”
Heartbreaking.
