Hmm… what an interesting resolution.
According to the Associated Press, Mark Wahlberg has given up his bid to have his 1988 assault against a Vietnamese man pardoned.

For those not in the know, back in the ’80s Wahlberg was an angry and drug addled Boston teen with racist beliefs. All those ugly factors came to a head one night in 1988 when the actor assaulted defenseless Hoa “Johnny” Trinh by punching him in the face.
Unfortunately, M.W. taunted and threw rocks at a group of African-American schoolchildren shortly before the crime against Mr. Trinh.
Given the senseless and cruel nature of Mark’s attacks, his 2014 application to have his criminal past pardoned was mostly met with outrage. Many people were offended by the fact that the father NEVER apologized to Hoa, and by the notion that his successful movie career somehow evened out the offenses.
Cut to 2016, and it’s clear Wahlberg has listened to his critics after it was revealed he ignored a letter fro the Massachusetts Parole Board to continue the pardon process.
Per Mark, he FINALLY met with Hoa and his family to formally say sorry:
“I was relieved to find out that the injuries to his eye had occurred in the early ’70s and not from the incident that happened that night. But I was able to meet with him and his wife and his daughter and apologize for those horrific acts. Some good did come out of it.”
Phew, we’re glad Mark took the time to see his victim, especially since Trinh supported his pardon from the very beginning.
The celeb also said of the original request:
“It was one of those things where it was just kind of presented to me, and if I could’ve done it over again I would never have focused on that or applied.”
Well, all’s well that ends well. We just hope the star has truly learned his lesson.
