Mary-Kate Olsen's Husband Was Annoyed By Her Career?!

On Wednesday we relayed the shocking news Mary-Kate Olsen was divorcing — or at least trying like hell to divorce — her husband, Olivier Sarkozy.

We learned not only were they apparently already living separately, their breakup had already reached “brutal” status by the time we even heard about it. Honestly, that makes sense given how private the twins have always been about their relationships.

But how did they get here? If it really has “gotten very ugly between them” as a source spilled to E! News earlier — and indeed as the legal filings seem to corroborate — we still have to ask: why?? How did they go from being married for nearly 5 years to him reportedly trying to kick her out of her apartment in NYC while the city is in lockdown because of the deadly pandemic??

Well, according to an insider speaking to People on Thursday, there was a fundamental friction between the two regarding… her career!

Wait, whut? What freaking year is this?? The source explained:

“She’s super career focused and he’s very French and wanted her to be more available.”

Seriously?? He’s a banker, presumably a pretty busy guy himself, and he married one of the world’s most famous and successful fashion designers, known to be hands on and high-minded about her work… and he was annoyed she wasn’t there when he got home, with a hot cup of cocoa waiting for him?

Is that really what we’re hearing??

Apparently so, as the insider noted:

“You can’t control a girl who has been on the billionaire track since her 20s.”

It’s true, besides being a household name, Mary-Kate, along with her sister Ashley Olsen have been a brand unto themselves practically since before they could walk. And after a few years of good contracts on WILDLY popular home video releases, followed by good investments and success in the fashion world, the Olsen Twins have a collective estimated net worth of a half billion dollars. Yes, with a B.

And he wanted her to be a housewife? We know he’s much older than she is, but he’s only 50 for crying out loud. It’s not like he’s old enough to remember a time before the women’s lib movement or something.

UGH.

If this is accurate, now our question isn’t, “What happened?” It’s, “How did they last this long if he has such a backward, controlling view of women?”
