It’s over for this controversial couple.
Mary Kay Letourneau and her former student-turned-husband are separating. TMZ reports Vili Fualaau filed for separation earlier this month after 12 years of marriage.

In case you don’t remember, Mary Kay was 34 years old back in 1996 when she began having an affair with her sixth grade student. She later served over seven years in prison for it (pictured in court in 1998 above).
She and Vili then married in 2005, and they have two children together.
A source told People:
“They’ve been having issues for a while now. They tried to work through them, but it didn’t work. They’re still committed to being good parents to their children.”
Mary Kay also has four children from her marriage to Steve Letourneau.
