Our hearts are just OVERFLOWING with love and pride after hearing this!
We’ve been playing Macklemore and Ryan Lewis‘s song Same Love nonstop since we first heard it. And now, that tune is getting its own spinoff!
Vocalist and co-writer Mary Lambert has released She Keeps Me Warm, which takes the chorus that she sang in Same Love and gives it its own track to shine on!
If we could, we would hug this song and never let it go! LOVE IT!!!
As an openly gay musician, the lyrics in Mary’s song are ACTUALLY about her real life girlfriend! She never thought she would see a day though where she could sing about the girl she loved. Mary said on her website:
“As a gay singer-songwriter, I have often struggled with pronouns in my writing. My thoughts were always, ‘I can├óΓé¼Γäót say ├óΓé¼╦£She├óΓé¼Γäós the bomb dot com,├óΓé¼Γäó I have to say ├óΓé¼╦£You├óΓé¼Γäóre the bomb dot com.├óΓé¼Γäó After singing Same Love all over the country and hearing teenage girls not giving two sh*ts about what the pronoun of the chorus was, it├óΓé¼Γäós given me strength to believe that the world can handle She Keeps Me Warm.“
Sing it out, loud and proud girl!
And it gets even better! Mary just wrapped on her first music video! And get this: the vid was starring lesbians, shot by lesbians, and produced by lesbians! Mary explained:
“Another thing I loved about making this video is that it was an all queer female crew. It felt empowering and safe. I have no doubt in my mind that this video is going to be a very important one. You├óΓé¼Γäóre going to cry when this video comes out, I├óΓé¼Γäóm telling you. A non-political, non-sexualized, lesbian love story. Because it├óΓé¼Γäós about f*cking time.”
